Once again, I lugged all my gear along with me and I made sure I used my tripod extensively. In fact I think I used it on about 95% of my shots. As it turns out, I really enjoy using it. The tripod makes my job so much easier and I found that I enjoyed coming up with creative ways of startling objects to get the shot I was looking for. In addition to “fun with tripods,” I also made it a point to use the aperture priority setting on my camera…and let me tell you, I love that setting. See, one of my goals with this project it to become a better photographer. To achieve that goal, I have to learn new and different things about photography. Sunday, I focused on depth of field. For the most part, I would take two shots for every photo, one at a high aperture setting and one at a low aperture setting. Obviously, the goal here is to find out how the different setting affects the photos outcome. The fact that I was shooting in a cemetery, playing around with depth of field only seemed natural. With tombstones in the foreground and background of almost every shot, I was really able to get creative with the concept of DOF and see what I could come up with. Now, I'm not saying that the photos I got are all fantastic...actually, I'm not that pleased with them, but my experiment with DOF and aperture was a success and I feel that I actually learned something about my camera and the concept of photography...therefore, the trip was a success.
